Well he won, Dommovitch that is, they got me out. I was however, awarded 1900.00 for all the hassle I've been through. The result being I'm moving out, they are going to move someone else in and charge them 200+ more than I was paying... so really what's a meagre 1900 as compared to the 2400/year he's going to be making. If there is anything I can do to help any of you out there with your landlord issues please don't hesitate to contact me, I have gone through 5 eviction hearings and am some what of an expert on the subject.
The gist of it is... don't take these things laying down, know your rights and fight for them, the system is in place to protect you wether you are a landlord or a tenant.
Good luck,
and thanks for all the support
hi, so happy to hear to that someone has followed through and stuck it up a baby boomers arse! I have an issue. I have been asking for repairs on property for 6 months and it hasnt been done. The landlord then sends a rent increase notice without repairs to property. He then walks into the property unannounced and without knocking. (he is a doctor working next door to the house). I then write an email to the realestate requesting they kindly educate him about the residential act and request repairs in return for rent increase. I also mention consumer affairs in this email, which is well within my rights. We then get an eviction notice 3 days later. Please tell me this isnt in retaliation???? how obvious it is. What can i do?
ReplyDeleteOk, you for sur have rights in this situation. you need to immediately take your eviction notice and all other notices, document the entry without notice and go down to the resident tenancy office. Consumer affairs has nothing to do with your rights as a tenant.
ReplyDeleteunfortunatley, repairs do not need to be done before a rent increase can be issued, but they are required to give you three months notice of the rent increase.
if the land lord will not agree to repairs you can get RTO involved and do the repairs yourself and take it off of your rent.
you need to act immediately though because you have a limited amount of time to contest the eviction notice.
please email me directly if you have any more questions.
