Ok, so here's the reason why I started this BLOG. To talk about my landlord and what a major stress he has put on my life.
I'm a good tenant. I pay my rent on time-in fact I give them posted dated cheques. I've never had a noise complaint. I think I've had them in to fix something or deal with something maybe 3 times in the past 4 years.
I'm facing my 5th eviction hearing in a few months. This latest one is that he claims he (or a family member) is moving in.
If this weren't my 5th eviction notice, I'd probably think it was true, but it's just another reason for him to kick me out. There is absolutely no way he's moving into my suite. He's worth several MILLION dollars. My place has mice, bugs, terrible plumbing, gross old scared hardwood floors. It's home to me, but it'd really be slumming it for the good DR.
I've been researching Dr. Slummavitch, and it turns out he's been pulling this crap on residents in his other buildings as well.
Wish me luck in my hearing! Comment if you have anything that might help my case, or if you were unjustly evicted by Dr. Domovitch yourself. I need all the help/evidence I can gather.

ReplyDeleteThe Residential Tenancy Office (RTO) brought in administrative penalties April of 2008 to penalize those who continuously contravene the Residential Tenancy Act - and no offenses to date have been serious enough for any to be imposed.
I have started gathering information to bring this landlords actions to the attention of the director of the RTO so that she can launch an investigation to - hopefully - levy the penalty.
If you are willing to write something with the details of what happened to you, please send it to me. I'll be able to combine it with the experiences of other tenants and submit it in my own name. my friends and i both had a suite at 540 Rithet We could not get him (Ed Domovitch)to clear via pest control the bed bugs problem out of their suite.The tenants who started it in the bottom floor was an elderly man who was needing a 24/h nurse he never had one yet he was still rented to by Ed Domowitch even though it's clear he should be in a home with health care not by himself anyway, then cause of his lack of care it went to the entire building when the building tenants got after him to fix the problem (ED) it was phone tag ya i will deal with it ..blah blah blah (you dirty son of a bitch of a doctor)....hope you read this anyhow moving on he had enough nerve to start evicting everybody who complained to anyone above him (RTA) blaming them for a the problem honestly i could write pages of the shit he did to us tenants in regards to this situation i had about 8 eviction notices not to mention his secretary is very liberal with the late rent fees in other words i told him i will no longer pay unless you address the building problem not just one suite all of them and cause i did this i fell late by a few days not willing to pay anyhow to make a bad situation worse the person calling on his behalf about late rent charges tried to get 300 the first time then 50 the next then 120 the final time within three day period . This is so out of wack it's almost hard to believe this is a serious post but it is anyhow i moved but not without losing everything cause as you know they are impossible to get rid of short of throwing stuff away couches bed frame mattresses clothes you name it i just wanted my clean healthy life back but he in the end got away with a simple few suites of cleaning witch never stopped the problem just postponed it . I never thought he could get away with this without having to replace items that were lost due to his negligence in monetary value but he did he got me evicted and i never saw a dime for all my items totaling around 5000$ by this time i was so fed up with everything i said to myself (time to take a loss move on with my life )still i always take time to write a review about him when possible and i tarnish his name and business practice left and right. He will always be the doctor who forced my friends and their newborn and me to live in less then human conditions (could have been dealt with quickly but it was not cause your a dirty shit bag of a human and a horrid doctor) as well your gonna pay in time i think their may be a special bedbug delivery to your home any day now so you and your wife can enjoy the same disgust we did
ReplyDeleteplease give me a call am interested in pursuing a legal suit against this guy with a number of others i lost 5000$ worth of stuff into the garbage cause of his lack of action not to mention forcing my friends and their newborn to live though bed bugs and me as well in another suite .anyhow done writing essays about this guy Ed Domovitch so keeping this one short .IF nothing happens to alleviate the stress we went through then he will get a special delivery of bedbugs to his door so him and his wife can scratch and get anxiety as well. Will never give up till your name is dirt in Victoria or till you receive "the package" you stupid fool of a doctor you crossed the wrong man your going to pay in bugs!!!

DeleteYou have got to be kidding. I live on Humbolt and have lived here for 9 years. Yes, Dr Domovitch did renovations. Yes, he evicted people. Yes, some people were upset, but hey, guess what. The place looks amasing now. He allowed me to move into another apartment while my place was being done and I moved right back in after it was finsihed. Amd yes, I pay more rent. But I have new laminate floors, an entirely new totally modern kitchen with granite counter. The bathroom is amazing, marble and sandstone. And the management is amazing. It seems to me that the good Dr has taken it upon himself to improve a very neglected building. This makes him a bad guy? Not in my books.

ReplyDeleteIt's run down, the superintendent here, and i use that word loosely, does nothing. The building is fithy and an apartment on the fourth floor had bed bugs which scare the hell out of me because I live right below that apt.
How do these landlords get away with so much? I ask you. I'm moving soon but that doesn't take care of all the problems present.

ReplyDeleteI live in one of Domovitch's buildings, and while I never had any contact with him (or heard about him), my building supervisor is a nasty man, a psychopath and liar, Scott Belamont. He gets verbally violent easily, and I start to fear for my safety as he pulled this behaviour on me now (I anticipated this to happen after witnessing it with others).
I'm a perfect tenant, always pay rent on or before the due date, don't damage anything, don't make noise, always polite.
I'm afraid to get into details here in case he somehow reads this and figures out who I am (would be easy). If anyone is interested in hearing more, let me know, and I may email you.

I lived in one of Dr. Fukomovitch's( that's how the tenants affectionately nickname him) properties in Toronto (1243 Broadview Ave.) Ive moved out since the building was cockroach infected. The man is a nutcase. The building is so poorly maintained. Dr. Ed. Domovitch just wanted to kick everyone out so he could renovate his units and charge higher rent. Which is understandable since he wants to make money... But what's the point of having newly renovated units being occupied but roaches, spiders, corridors filled with dirty and water leaks everywhere... We had a nice community living in the building, all good and hard working people that really got along help each other, but one by one we all moved out harassed by either bugs or eviction notices as some of you described on this blog... Some of the tenants evicted were elderly, living in the building for years!Boooo! Shame on you Dr.!

DeleteI am a current tenant of 1243 Broadview Ave, and I 100% agree with the anonymous post on July 9th. I have lived here for 3 years, when I moved in it was rushed and some renovations had not been completed. 3 years later most still haven't been completed. Also during my time here, we have gone through 6 superintendents, so maybe it's not the employees but rather the owner. I am not saying that we have competent supers by any stretch of the imagination (except for a select few) but I believe the blame can be placed with higher management/owner.
ReplyDeleteThe cockroaches were a major problem at one point, but I have taken measures to protect my apartment, I cannot speak for other apartments but I have seen some in the hallways. That problem had been brought up with the management and nothing was done.
For potential renters of 1243 Broadview Ave. I have noticed that rental sites have noted "secure" which its not, as well as a working telecom system, that only works three quarters of the time, among many other problems. So if you are a stickler for timely and competent repairs/issues, another building may be a better choice. This building has the potential to be a great residence again, if Mr. Domovitch would do his part and reexamine his selection process of his employees and fund the buildings properly. The issues that have been corrected in my apartment (very few), had unqualified workers, In some cases making the initial problem worse.
An open letter to Mr. Ed Domovitch, Apartments"R"Us, and any other patsies:
There needs to be change in this building, you need to look at these tenants as people rather than a paycheck you just want to constantly increase. You need to hire quality workers that don't cut corners! Problems need to be looked after in a timely manner, the same way YOU would feel about a service that you pay for. Mr. Domovitch, the way you treat tenants across Canada is deplorable, unethical, and outright disgusting. You are what is wrong with the rental industry. I don't want you to think that I am some "disgruntled tenant", I am very well educated in both law and security. I know of all the regulations broken with this building and others, under the RTA and the ESA, just to name a couple. I also used mister rather than doctor because I don't believe that anyone who has taken the Hippocratic Oath, that treats human beings the way you do, deserves any such title!
Change must occur or legal action may be taken!
There is also no need to "trace" this because you can find me in Apt. 1
Please help affect changes in this building and others, for the sake of your tenants that are just trying to live their lives in peace.

Ed I understand owns numerous apt bldgs in Ontario, British Columbia and California. He is a retired Dr likely worth millions of dollars. At a time in his life when he should be enjoying the substantial fruits of his labor (sailing, playing tennis, golfing , travelling or whatever suits his fancy) Ed is more concerned about arguing with people to make, or save, minor amounts of money. Clearly he is more in need of counselling than almost anyone that know - especially for anger management. If he keeps on his current path he is likely to die as Ebenezer Scrooge might have had he not changed his ways - alone, with everyone that knew him glad that he's finally passed on.

Iv lived at 1243 broadview ave. for 2 years. All I have to say is that Ed is a crook who is greedy and doesent give a shit about anyone but his old dirty self. This building is infested with roaches, mice, spiders , and ants. I have retained a lawyer and will be suing this piece of shit at the beginning of 2015. I also have 8 people from this building with full support.
ReplyDeleteI've been living in 1243 Broadview Ave for 2 or 3 years. I am a very clean person, I like to have everything organized and tidy, and I've had so many issues with this apartment that I don't know where to begin. When I fist moved in, the renovations were not fully done so many unfinished touches that they never completed. On my first week I saw a tiny cockroach, Bob (the building manager) sprayed everywhere, but I still went ahead and hired a pest control to treat my unit on my own I haven't seen another cockroach since, only ants which seem to be everywhere, but a few months ago I stared having a much more serious issue (mice) I killed three in two nights, they brought in a pest control company after a lot of harassment to treat the whole building, the infestation is so severe, that mice are still here after two treatments. I hope they continue with the treatment or I will take the case to the landlord and tenant board. Regarding the building management I've seen three or four superintendents in two years Jason (our current super) is by far the best, very helpful and always gets things done. The building managers, Bob is a very nice man, a bit disorganized and not the best at getting things done, but his wife Deb is another story, very sassy, hostile and difficult to talk to, even for very simple inquiries, that's why I don't even bother with her. I have been at 1243 Broadview in Toronto for almost 3 years now. I remember the complete ant infestation at our apartment for almost the entire first year that we lived there. We were one of the lucky units that haven't ever had mice - but I know there are tenants that have. Though that could be only because we have 2 cats.

We've been considered moving into a bigger apartment closer to the subway recently but now with the bugs in our unit gone (finally...) we've realized we like the area where we live and have considered staying another year.
Unfortunately, I found out this morning that Domovitch is attempting to evict a fellow tenant in the building by claiming he has a family member that needs the unit.
In the long run it seems he may be attempting to evict everyone to turn this building into condos.
I am a lawyer at a community legal clinic in Toronto. I represent one of Edward Domovitch's tenants. Like many of you, my client has received what she believes to be a bogus notice of termination alleging the landlord or a member of the landlord's family intends to move into her unit.

FYI, landlords don't bring mice and cockroaches into buildings. They are brought in by tenants. The entire building was treated by pest professionals and the problem is gone for now. Tenants who leave food out
encourage cockroaches and mice.
I am unapologetically enraged at the comments regarding Deb, Bob and Jason. They all work very hard to solve tenant issues. I assure you that property management, repairs and maintenance in this building is the best in the entire city.
It is a shame that a few tenants have nothing better to do than post false allegations anonymously. If they were truly not happy with the building, they would move out to a better place.
