The Result

Well he won, Dommovitch that is, they got me out. I was however, awarded 1900.00 for all the hassle I've been through. The result being I'm moving out, they are going to move someone else in and charge them 200+ more than I was paying... so really what's a meagre 1900 as compared to the 2400/year he's going to be making. If there is anything I can do to help any of you out there with your landlord issues please don't hesitate to contact me, I have gone through 5 eviction hearings and am some what of an expert on the subject.
The gist of it is... don't take these things laying down, know your rights and fight for them, the system is in place to protect you wether you are a landlord or a tenant.
Good luck,
and thanks for all the support

Rental Insurance/Home insurance/who's responsibility is it

Question
Anonymous said...

Hello,
Would you happen to know anything about house insurance and whether a landlord has a legal right to impose this expense on the tenant?
It's my understanding that this is entirely the responsibility of the landlord.
Thanks!

Ok it's my understanding that insurance on the home would be the responsibility of the homeowner. Content insurance would be yours. It stands to reason, that if a flood, or fire were to take place, the homeowner would be paid any settlement for damage to the structure, not a tenant. If you have content insurance, your loss would be paid to you for anything you own that was damaged. I would contact the Resident Tenancy Office to clear that up. http://www.rto.gov.bc.ca/
Thanks for your post, and I hope that helped

Rental Scams!!!

Ok, so here's a great way to tell if that perfect house you found, in the perfect location, is just a scam! If you get a response from a landlord and it reads like an autobiography - it's a scam. If the landlord and his wonderful god fearing family have just moved out of the country, and can't show you the place first - it's a scam. If they want you to send them money, sight unseen - it's a scam. If someone wants to rent from you and they send you a cheque for way too much money, and want you to send most of it to them, or someone else - it's a scam.
please make a comment if you have been scammed, or know of a rental scam.

here are some examples

Rental Rates in Victoria

Post your comments here about the Rental Rates in Victoria. It's a renters market right now but are prices reflecting that?

Pet Policies

Post your comments here about Pet Policies.

In response to Anonymous' question about why people ignore pet policies. I can not speak for those who do, because I choose only to rent from landlords who allow pets. I assume that for the most part, people who ignore pet policies, is simply due to the fact that it's very difficult to find pet friendly rentals in this city. I know how daunting a task it is to find a place to live when you have a pet. Most pet owners, are like me, in that their four legged friends are a part of their family, I would no more give up my dog in order to get a place to live, than a mother would give up her child. With that in mind, I can see why some people would choose to sneak a pet in, rather than give it up. I'm not endorsing this behaviour at all, I've been living in a dump with a complete jerk for a landlord for 4 years, for the simple fact that I know how hard it is to find pet friendly rentals in my city.

Dr Ed. Domovitch

Ok, so here's the reason why I started this BLOG. To talk about my landlord and what a major stress he has put on my life.
I'm a good tenant. I pay my rent on time-in fact I give them posted dated cheques. I've never had a noise complaint. I think I've had them in to fix something or deal with something maybe 3 times in the past 4 years.
I'm facing my 5th eviction hearing in a few months. This latest one is that he claims he (or a family member) is moving in.
If this weren't my 5th eviction notice, I'd probably think it was true, but it's just another reason for him to kick me out. There is absolutely no way he's moving into my suite. He's worth several MILLION dollars. My place has mice, bugs, terrible plumbing, gross old scared hardwood floors. It's home to me, but it'd really be slumming it for the good DR.
I've been researching Dr. Slummavitch, and it turns out he's been pulling this crap on residents in his other buildings as well.
Wish me luck in my hearing! Comment if you have anything that might help my case, or if you were unjustly evicted by Dr. Domovitch yourself. I need all the help/evidence I can gather.
